Super Creative Ideas for Family Portrait Wall Art
It’s always a mistake to think there’s only one way to do anything. When it comes to options for canvas art like the family portrait, it can seem like there’s just one accepted way because almost everyone does it exactly the same: The same poses, at the same ages. But if our ability to create awesome wall art using canvas printing services has taught us nothing else it’s that you can be creative in an infinite variety of ways.
So, if you’re thinking that some good old-fashioned family portraiture is a great way to decorate your home or make some amazing gifts for your loved ones – you’re right. But that doesn’t mean you have to approach it the same as everyone else. Here are some ideas that can take your family portraiture to the next level.
DON’T FORGET THE GRANDPARENTS
Many families include the grandparents in their family portraits, of course. Including the older generation is a great way to reaffirm that link that stretches back throughout time to your ancestors, and is also a great way to include the grandparents in the goings-on in your family.
But instead of simply having a great photo of your grandparents made into beautiful art prints, try this: Find their old wedding photos and choose one that really captures their spirit and their relationship, then have them recreate the pose! Perhaps without the wedding dress and tuxedo, but with the same background, body poses, and other details. Then you can have the original wedding photo hung alongside the new one for an amazing effect.
The Portal of Time
Another great idea is to have the parents each take photos where they are holding older photos of themselves. If you’re just starting off as a couple, this is a great opportunity to set up a long-term art project that will both celebrate your family and blow people away.
First, find a photo of yourself from some time in the past – it could be a childhood photo, a college picture, or just when you were starting out as an adult. Then, have a nice big print made, and hold it as you pose for the current portrait. Then, start taking new versions every year or two or three, except hold the last photo taken in each new one. Over time you’ll create images where the past is literally right there in each photo, showing your development.
This can then be done with kids as they appear on the scene and even grandparents if they want in on the fun. After a decade, you’ll have some of the most amazing family portraits in the neighbourhood!
Your family is unique – why would you ever treat them like everyone else’s family? Do something creative with your family portraits – and when you have created something truly special that capture the spirit and tenor of your family, send us the photos and we will make those memories into awesome canvas prints for your walls.
